Equitation Science International (RTO TOID 41254) is internationally recognised as the first accredited training centre dedicated to improving horse training using an evidence-based and ethical approach.

Established in 2013 at the Australian Equine Behaviour Centre in Clonbinane, Australia, Equitation Science International offers qualifications in equitation science, a new and exciting field for horse handlers, trainers and coaches. First developed by Dr Andrew McLean, Equitation Science International and its graduates are paving the way for a more modern and ethical approach to horse training and coaching that can be easily understood and applied by both horse professionals and enthusiasts.

Who is this course for?
ESI Students Open to students in ESIHTP502Am ESIHTP503 and ESIHTP504A or further. You should be studying online, having worked your way through or completed at least up to and including Unit ESIHTP502A. Depending on what unit you’re up to, Andrew McLean can train and assess the relevant practical components. You can practise the practical components for further units and may be eligible for assessment for those too.
ESI Graduates You will be updated on the latest research and advancements in Equitation Science. Sharing new and deepening existing knowledge and skills with like minded trainers.
Can I bring my own horse? Yes. You will be trained and assessed on your horse and other horses.
Can I attend the course if I do not have a horse? Yes. You can hire a horse for the course. Please email Lisa@equitationscience.co.uk to confirm your interest in hiring. Limited number of horses available. All suitable for the course. Horse hire is £50.
Where will I keep my horse during the course? You can hire a corral (small fenced area of a field) for the duration of the course. The cost is £20 per horse, per night.
Where will we train the horses?
There is a short ridden walk (10 mins) from The Barns at Upcote (where your horse are staying) to the training arena’s at Withington Manor Livery. If the weather is wet, the indoor arena will be used.
Where will I stay during the course? There are a variety of options, depending on your style and budget.

How long are the days?
Each day starts with a briefing at 9am. Horses arrive at Withington Manor for 10am. Training finishes between 5-5.30pm
What about food and refreshments?
Due to everyone having different dietary tastes and requirements, please provide your own breakfast, lunch and cost of your pub meal on Tuesday night. A welcome buffet on Monday night and leaving BBQ wed night is inclusive of the price of the course.
How much is the course?
ESI Practicum is £500 and excludes: horse hire, corral hire, accommodation and some meals (see above)
I see Andrew is doing an Open Clinic on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th July, can I attend this 2 day course?
Yes. They are separate courses, so please contact Lisa to book and pay onto each one. The Clinic is two days and open to everyone. It is £400 + corral + food. If you are staying and training for the whole week, you might also be interested to know you can attend a Charity Auction Dinner at The Barns on Saturday 15th July, all in aid of the elephant charity H-elp (Human Elephant Learning Programme) where Andrew will update everyone on the charity’s achievements, plans for the future and raise as much money as possible to support the future welfare of elephants.

2 Day Open Clinic: Thursday 13th and Friday 14th July
This unique opportunity is open to everyone and will be tailored to meet your needs. Enjoy a 2 day intensive clinic, specifically targeting your training goals, learning from lessons, lectures and observing horse and rider combinations throughout the clinic.
The cost of two days is £400
and includes a farewell BBQ on the Friday evening.
Corrals are £20 per night
See above for different accommodation options if required.
Please provide your own breakfast and lunch’s including money for a pub dinner on the Thursday night.
If you would like to audit this clinic, please register your interest with Lisa at firstname.lastname@example.org £30 per day. Bring your own ‘seat’ – a ‘shooting seat’ is an ideal height for auditing from the indoor arena (if weather is wet).
